MS causing Access Violation on Server 2008

Post by FayeMar01 » Sat Sep 13, 2008 6:02 am

Just downloaded the latest MS Std, installed it and no good. Everytime I try to run it an 'Access Violation at address...Write of address...' occurs.

I restarted the server but same thing.

Maybe I have the wrong version - but in a prior email to support I did ask about installing it on W2003 and later on W2008.

Strange. I've seen no issues on Windows 2008 Server, which has the same kernel as Vista anyway. Just to be sure I have just installed Windows 2008 Server Standard into a new Virtual machine, so it's a vanilla, straight from the box installation. I then installed the latest Macro Scheduler evaluation and it all ran fine. I then installed the registered version and again no issues.

Do you have any scripts set to run on startup?

I'll PM you with a debug version to try with so that we can get a stack trace.

There are no scripts at all and it's a very plain W2008 setup - just Terminal Services and File Server plus 7 Features including Desktop Experience.

Here are some details from the Application event viewer.

"Faulting application msched.exe, version 0.0.0.0, time stamp 0x2a425e19, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 6.0.6001.18000, time stamp 0x4791a81d, exception code 0x0eedfade, fault offset 0x0002f35f, process id 0xd94, application start time 0x01c91602963e91e5."

** I just saw the PM and will try the supplied EXE. No need to reply to this post - THANKS. **

Hi Marcus

I created a support ticket (203426) with the results of the special debug version - there are no results as the various tabs also caused faults - some time ago.

Have you had a chance to think about it?

Also the auto reply to the ticket I created has a ticket link which when used to access the ticket shows no tickets when I logon - hope this makes sense. That's the reason I am posting to the forum.

I replied to your ticket yesterday. You should have received it by email. I'll PM you.

I am replying to the public forum because when I use:
http://www.mjtnet.com/hd/view.php
and log in via my email and ticket# and then bring up the ticket (which BTW does not show up automatically) and click on the tick I am taken to a new window that ONLY has "Access denied".

OK the new debugger is worse than the old.
When I click on say "show bug report" it freezes.

I just realized it did create a 'bugreport.txt' file. Here is the contents.

Thanks for the log. We'll see if we can glean anything from it.

I'm perplexed as to why you can't see your ticket. Just to be sure I went to:

http://www.mjtnet.com/hd/view.php

I entered your email address.
I entered your ticket number.
I clicked Login
Under "Last Answered Tickets" I could see your ticket. I clicked on it.
I could then see our conversation - your initial email and my reply.
All appears fine.

At what point are you getting Access Denied?

P.S. Are you only getting this Access Violation with the evaluation version, or also with the registered version? Reason I ask is because the above log shows an error occurring during the trial reminder screen.

Yes I just performed (again) the above.
This time the ticket is showing (203426) immediately.
I click on the ticket# or the subject (both in red).
New window appears with only header information (your logo etc down to the drop down menus) and NO ticket related info, ie no query, no logout, nothing below the menus...
other than 'Access denied' just below the PRODUCTS menu.

I have purchased MS STD for my server 2003 - works fine.

Below is ALL about the 2008 server.
I initially installed the trial version, got the access violation, posted to the forum, installed a debug version, installed a second debug version. That's it - everything else I know is contained in the prior posts.
